Obedience Training / Tracking / Protection

Training for Tracking and Protection is limited to certain Breeds and Circumstances.

What is Schutzhund?

" Schutzhund, is a dog sport that was developed in Germany in the early 1900s as a breed suitability test for the German Shepherd Dog. The test would determine if the dog displayed the appropriate traits and characteristics of a proper working German Shepherd Dog. Today many breeds other than German Shepard dogs can compete in Schutzhund, but it is a demanding test that few are able to pass successfully. Schutzhund entails trials in Obedience, Tracking, and Protection. " 

Schutzhund training demands a lot from a dog and also their handler. Training in all aspects of the sport may not be appropriate for some people and families. It also takes a somewhat young and enthusiastic k9 to thrive in the tracking and protection aspect. Some circumstances and dogs might be better suited to training in just 1, or 2 of the 3 areas, rather than attempting and failing to make a full working dog out of a home pet. Each dog and situation is different. Dogs of all ages can learn new things and be directed away from bad habits, often times all the situation needs is some redirection and rehab, not Schutzhund training. Most k9's however, benefit from either tracking or obedience training, perhaps both. If you believe your dog could, Inquire with us and we will let you know if they would! :)

We will be functioning as a working dog club, offering memberships for Ds K9s starting at the end of 2014.  We will be carrying 3 memberships, with different advantages and details with each package.
